Becky
provided the following report on the Reunion 2009.
Wanda
and I wanted to plan the next reunion somewhere in the
mountains. We thought about Gatlinburg, TN, again, but
decided to check out Helen, GA, first. Wanda flew up
from Florida back in July and we took a trip up there.
We liked what we saw in Helen, especially the lodges at
Unicoi State Park for our lodging. We met the Group
Sales Coordinators at the lodge and have had several
conference calls with them since then. We will be able
to take our own coffee and refreshments to the
hospitality room each morning and plan to keep the
coffee ready throughout the day. This room has a
fireplace and big comfortable chairs to relax in. For
the campers in our group, there are three campgrounds
available at Unicoi. We will be getting out more
information on this, later.
There
are tours of the surrounding areas available and for
those who would like to try their hand at the slots or
the tables, we plan to have a shuttle/bus available for
a trip to Cherokee, N. C., which is not far from Helen.
For the shoppers in our group, there are many nice
shops, clothiers and restaurants in downtown Helen.
There is a restaurant on the grounds at Unicoi, which is
within walking distance of the lodges. They serve three
full meals a day buffet style. Wanda and I had
breakfast there and it was great. We could tell it was
well run, clean, and the staff was very nice and
courteous.
While
we were in Helen, we also went to the Visitors Center
and received a lot of information. We also met with
their Sales & Marketing Coordinator, whom I spoke with
several weeks before our trip. She gave us lots of
excellent information and ideas, and will help us anyway
she can. So, we are looking forward to next year and
plan on having fun while doing it. Wanda will be coming
to Georgia again next spring, so we can make another
trip to Helen and finalize even more. Oh yes, we have
not forgotten the golfers. Chuck Rager has agreed to
plan the golf tournament.
Meeting was adjourned. Everyone was wished a safe trip
home.
